Go Ask Alice

The title of this memoir is called “Go Ask Alice.” It can refer as to if you have any questions about drugs, and if you are curious about trying them you can read this book. And find out about the horrible life she had, because of drugs, and how it can ruin your life.

“Go Ask Alice” is true story about an anonymous 15 year old girl who begins her diary, because she doesn’t have anyone to talk to, because she doesn’t know how to communicate with others in society, and she barely even has friends and although she comes from a loving family, she’s curious about trying drugs. At first she barely even knows about drugs, but then in a party, she has her first LSD experience, and she starts getting more into drugs. She ends being fascinated by drugs, and writes about her moments using drugs, and how it feels when she has her experiences.

The book is an epistolary memoir that she is keeping dates of in every entry, but there are some entries that are missing dates. The month of July in the second diary she makes, has some missing dates, and also March.

She comes to realize that although she is addicted to drugs, she notices that drugs only take her to worst places, and make her do bad things just because she is addicted to them. She also realized that she learned how to communicate with others, and that’s why at the end she stops writing in her diary, and she noticed how good her family was to her after all she had to them, and how they have supported her and handled her problems as a caring family.

This memoir was amazing, and it isn’t only for teenagers to read, but for adults, because this book takes you into the astonishing world of drugs, but it also shows you how bad it is, and what it can lead you to do just for drugs. It shocked me the way the girl tried to live without drugs, but never could actually live okay without them, which shows you a lot about the not so wonderful things about drugs.

Lines We Love:

“Its 2 A.M and I’ve just had the sweetest feeling I’ve ever had in my life. I tried to pray again. Actually I was just trying to thank god for getting me out of there and bringing me home but then I started to think about Jan and Marcie and for the first time I really wanted God to help them too. I really wanted them to get completely well and not to have to end up in a mental hospital. Oh, please God, I hope they do get well. Please help them and help me too." August 10, pg. 168.
